I’m all about the Lyrics…..

It has been my desire to be a songwriter for as long as I can remember.  I have jotted down lyrics on anything available when thoughts came into my head; it is a hobby and a passion.  I wish I could say that I am musically talented, but I fear I would get struck by lightning; it is hard to say why a person who isn’t talented musically would want to write songs, but all I can say is that I feel I have a musical soul.  My mother even noticed this in me at a very young age when my foot would tap to the beat of every song playing on the car radio as we drove along.

To be honest, I have always had zero confidence in my song writing ability, I felt totally incompetent due to my lack of musical talent.  Who would take someone seriously when they couldn’t read music or play an instrument?  To test the waters, I went outside my comfort zone and asked a good friend, who is so musically multi-talentedif she would listen to one of my songs; she graciously agreed.  I was so intimated by her amazing abilities and very nervous in turning over my recording to her for her critique (I asked for her total and complete honesty).  Her response was so gratifying; I was astounded that she thought I had a genuine talent that she herself didn’t possess, really? and to think for years I had put myself down for not being musical!

My one claim to fame regarding my songwriting was winning third place in a songwriting contest sponsored by a radio station in Nashville, the letter stated that my song was selected from hundreds of entries.  I think the part about being chosen from hundreds of entries was the best part of the prize knowing how many talented people there are in Nashville.  This prize boosted my confidence enough to keep me writing, it was like a seal of approval.

I wanted to learn more about song composition so I enrolled in a six weeks class offered by the Nashville Song Writers Association.  I learned some things, but mostly that I was in over my head.  I also took a course in the business of songwriting at our local college.  Taking courses and being around music keeps me interested in writing and gets my creative juices pumping, plus I met fun and interesting people.

I have so many interests and hobbies that I am enjoying to the fullest, including taking trips with our horses, camping, traveling, hiking, biking, gardening, writing, reading, songwriting, acrylic and watercolor painting, art classes, snow skiing, Zumba, Flo, and TRX training and spending time with my family.
